The Story Behind brain.am
I get distracted by lyrics very easily when I study or write code, so I rely on instrumental focus audio.
During my end-semester exam prep, I was using brain.fm a lot. It genuinely helped me stay in rhythm, but my trial ended right before an important exam. That moment pushed me to build something I could control end-to-end: brain.am.
The goal was simple: calm, functional focus audio that stays in the background and lets me think.

The Mac app is still personal because of local sandboxing changes I made for my setup. The web version is a lighter public version, with fewer features due to streaming limits.
I use brain.am almost everytime I got exams coming up. If lyrics pull your attention away when you need to focus, this should feel familiar.
(p.s. due for a update, but I just haven't had the time to work on it lately. ;-;)
